Happy New Year everyone! 2012 is going to be an exciting year in judo with the upcoming Olympics in London. In this podcast, Mike and Gene talk with Matt Marcinek, the Disabled Grappler, who was also on episode 56. Matt has started a new motivational speaking series “Don’t Dis My Ability” and will be visiting Mike in Oklahoma City on January 12 for a workout and seminar. Matt talks about perspective and how he deals with various kinds of students from athletes with high talent low motivation and vice versa. He definitely brings us all back into perspective in this very special podcast. They also talk about NAGA and the rise of MMA, specifically former judo stars Ronda Rousey and Rick Hawn. We want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for 2012! We just recorded another podcast featuring Matt Marcinek and hope to have it up in a day or so. Once again, Matt was great to interview and he talks about his new motivational speaking series.

In 1963, “Judo Gene” LeBell defeated the #5 ranked light heavyweight boxer, Milo Savage, in the first documented and televised mixed martial arts bout.  Most judoka and many other martial artists may already know this, but here is a short video interview of Gene LeBell about the fight with some video clips from the historic event.  The video “The Boy With Red Hair“, is found on Stunts Unlimited. Episode 18, “Attitude Adjustment”, is one of my personal favorites of the Judo Pocast, and I look forward to interviewing “Judo Gene” LeBell again in the future. Read more →
